The Beer of the Month
March 2004
Mmmmm, maybe a slight case of blog fade? This is March's Beer of the Month or is it February's and I'm writing this at the end of April. One word, Sorry! It's not that I haven't been drinking fine ales, lord knows I have. It's just that I have got into the habit of not blogging. Again, I'm sorry.
Sorry what's new? We'll in March, Wetherspoon's introduced three Craft beers from Sixpoint Brewery in cans. Yes cans! The beers were "The Crisp", "Sweet Action" and "Bengali Tiger" and they are uniformly excellent. All are B++ apart from Bengali Tiger which is easy A-. So what's good about them? The name Craft covers a multiple of sins or even rather good brews. In this case it's all about the hops and the hops are American. And I love American hops, the citrus taste, the aroma and the sheer drink ability. You can guess that I'm impressed.

So why are they beer(s) of the month? We'll, they are new, they are in cans and they are great beers. You can also get them as your included drink with your meal deals. Singularly they are £2.85 a can but you can get two cans for £5.00. Strangely there's no deal for all three of them. Maybe a touch of the nanny state as the lowest ABV of the three is Sweet Action at 5.2%.
So to sum up. Great tasting citrusy beers, excellent with food and Wetherspoons serve them with glasses so they don't warm up to quickly. Oh they come from the fridge, so as the weather warms up, they can cool you down. Well worth a try.

January 2014
Dengie Dark January, the month when people go alcohol free, not me. I search for different beers, non seasonal beers, good quality beers, unfashionable beers. And you can't get more unfashionable than a mild. An old mans drink, an old fashioned drink, not cutting edge, just old.
No, I say. A mild is still a good pint and Dengie Dark is an advanced mild. I may trademark that term. So, what does it taste like? First of all, it's not boring. Highly flavoursome and to me, a tongue tingling finish. The sort of pint that makes you go back for another. As always, you have to drink. To me, a great start to 2014.

December 2013
Dead Pony Club - Brewdog - 3.8% ABV. Stronger beers are better beers, not for me. It's the taste and the alcohol content is only a secondary consideration. I had this beer on draught in Brewdog Newcastle. It was not cheap but often the best things in life aren't. This is hoppy, very hoppy and then some. Remember it's all about the taste. It's a Californian Pale ale, made from Spring Blend, Cara and Crystal Malts and and Simcoe, Citra and HBC hops. To me it was a revelation and I shall be going back for more. It was a great way to start Christmas.
November 2013
Hadouken - Tiny Rebel - 7.4% ABV. This is described as an amplified IPA and it snuck in just under the wire. IPAs were originally designed to be sent from the UK to India. As the journey was rather hot and long, they were brewed with more alcohol and extra hops to survive the journey. Hadouken certainly has been brewed stronger, weighing in at 7,4% ABV and hops, well it's stuffed full of three different types of US hops. How does it taste, well you must like IPAs but if you do, it's a must drink.
October 2013
Geuze 100% Lambic Bio - Cantillon - 5.0% ABV. This is the 2013 version but this classic Lambic can be laid down and still taste wonderful for up to 20 years. Get the large 75cl bottle sit back and relax. Price, well quality costs but the Urban Tap House in Cardiff charged about £11.50. Which for a quality imported lambic like this isn't too shabby. The taste, well as a Lambic it's acquired. Sour and acidic but wonderfully drinkable and thirst quenching. And if you really want to enjoy it in all it's glory, then it's Moeder Lambic for you. Easily a world classic.
